Honiara, capital of the Solomons on Guadalcanal island, boasts an idyllic tropical climate, unique historic sites both on land and beneath the water. Plus, handicraft shops, cafés, restaurants and bars.
As the site of the first allied offensive in the South Pacific during World War II, Honiara holds a significant place in history. Allied forces landed on Guadalcanal, largest of the Solomon Islands, and seized a Japanese airstrip under construction. Today this airstrip is Honiara's International Airport.

Provides commanding views of Iron Bottom Sound, the scene of major naval battles, as well as exhibits of major battle sites and descriptions.

The National Archives

The most extensive collection of historic material in the country is collected and maintained at these archives, open to the public.

Bloody Ridge

Colonel Merritt Edson's Marine Raider battalion defended this ridge and rebuffed a major Japanese attack.
